The Solomon Islands
Sometimes you just need to sit back and disconnect from everyday life. One of the last places on the planet where you can do exactly that is the Solomon Islands – an Eden in the middle of the South Pacific.
Island-hopping is a real must-do. Gizo and Guadalcanal are great for markets, mountains, waterfalls and cultural sites (definitely visit Lumatapopoho Cultural Village while in Guadalcanal to get a sense of traditional Solomon Island life). For adventure, head to the Western Province to snorkel, fish, surf, SUP or dive down to a sunken World War II fighter jet.
When it comes to accommodation on the islands, you’ll set aside five-star luxury for rustic romance, but it’s definitely something that makes the Solomons so unique and exceptional. Best of all, it’s a toes-in-the-sand kind of destination with an easygoing lifestyle and the warmest of locals. No shoes? No shirt? No worries.
