Places to Stay

Bangkok

Prepare for all your senses to be ignited — the smells, sounds, tastes and energy of Bangkok are dynamic. Most international visitors will arrive in Thailand via this sultry, bustling city and it certainly makes for a fantastic introduction to the Kingdom of Thailand.

Bangkok seems caught between holding on to its rich history and surrendering to a seductive modernity. Traditional food stalls and alleys sit amongst glittering skyscrapers. Ancient temples share the neighbourhood with breathtaking rooftop bars. Chaotic street markets hustle for space with glitzy air-conditioned malls. A world-class sky train navigates the huge metropolis from above, while traditional tuk-tuk drivers do the same below. It’s a fascinating juxtaposition to experience.

Make the most of this 24/7 big-fun big city. Drink, dine and shop. Be sure to visit a temple or two. Best of all, get lost in the hustle and bustle.

Need to Know:

DO investigate the drinking and dining scene before travelling to Bangkok — the number of hip bars and new restaurants is staggering. From wine bars and jazz bars such as Jazz Happens in hip Phra Athit to incredible rooftop bars and clubs with international djs, there is a very cool after-dark scene here.

DON’T be scared to eat street food – just be sure your choice is teeming with lines of locals, always a good indication of delicious, fresh snacks.

COUPLES WILL LOVE exploring the backstreets by bike. Bangkok offers some truly amazing two-wheeled adventures. SpiceRoads Cycling Tours run full and half-day bike trips linking some of the city’s biggest attractions — from the beautiful wats (temples) to traditional Thai floating markets. You can even escape Bangkok for a bike ride up country to Khao.
