Overview
Nusa Lembongan, a 30-minute ferry ride from Sanur, is home to dreamy white sands, pristine waters, and a relaxed ‘old Bali’ charm. This tiny isle is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the mainland but is still jam-packed with tropical charm, gorgeous bays and beaches, luxe and local eateries, and everything in between. Discover one of Nusa Lembongan’s most beautiful boutique retreats, Morin Resort, for an unforgettable romantic escape in Bali.
The location
Located off the southeast coast of Bali, this compact and captivating isle is one of three ‘Nusa’ islands (the others are Penida and Ceningan). The best way to get to Nusa Lembongan is via boat transfer, and our tip is Rocky Fast Cruise, which is the only company that facilitates jetty-to-jetty service. The trip takes about half an hour and is an absolute breeze, with the Rocky Fast Cruise staff helping to navigate the entire process from pick-up to drop-off. They can also easily organise hotel transfers at each end to complete your journey.
On the island, you’ll be greeted by gorgeous cliffs, turquoise waters, and the most blissful tropical energy! Getting around Nusa Lembongan differs slightly from mainland Bali, as online taxis are unavailable here. If you’re an experienced motorcycle rider, hiring a moped is the easiest way to explore. If that’s not really your thing, many restaurants provide complimentary pick-up and drop-off services, while your hotel can book taxis.
Good to know: the entire island is only eight square kilometres, making it perfect for exploring by bicycle or on foot. However, it’s important to note that the weather can be quite hot, and some roads may be rocky, so it’s best to be prepared and consider your fitness level before embarking on these adventures!
Best room for two
Wondering where to stay in Nusa Lembongan? The gorgeous Morin Resort is waiting for you on the West Coast. Set across an elevated site in Tamarind Bay, this boutique retreat offers a choice of 12 rooms, suites, and bungalows, plus an enchanting tree house. Following the path to Morin feels like stepping into a Greek Island dream, with mind-blowing ocean vistas and vibrant red hibiscus flowers filling the trees.
The resort is infused with a unique minimalist beauty, all honeyed timbers and breezy, sun-kissed spaces. We recommend the Ocean Suites for their breathtaking ocean views (and we mean really breathtaking), generous balconies for catching a sea breeze with a drink or a book, and semi-open bathroom design. Look for the private pool option as an extra-special treat. For a unique stay, see the magical Mango Tree House for its circular bed, outdoor bathroom, and mesmerising ocean vistas.
Morin is more than just a tropical paradise. It’s a special escape that captures the spirit of Bali and what it means to love the planet we call home. The heritage property celebrates a decades-long friendship between two families (the Monoh from Nusa Lembongan and the Jamar from Belgium) and a deep, shared love of the island. Owner and conservation scientist Oria Jamar de Bolsée took inspiration from childhood family vacations here when helping transform a humble string of bungalows into the chic retreat of today. With a significant emphasis on sustainability, Morin has been created as a private cocoon within a sublime setting: an oasis to invest in and show love for the natural world.
The passion and warm hospitality of the resort staff will only enhance your stay here. They know Nusa Lembongan back to front and quickly feel like family, bringing so much joy to the atmosphere.
Around the resort
Welcome to a world of ocean adventures, delicious dining, and complete connection and relaxation. Lose track of time at the swimming pool, complete with bean bags overlooking the waves and comfy submerged seats (a top spot to enjoy morning coffee). Or take our tip for the perfect day trip and book a private boat charter — customised to include everything from snorkelling with manta rays to a romantic sunset cruise.
This region is well-known for its snorkelling, diving, and swimming spots, and Morin is close to some of Nusa Lembongan’s best beaches. Our favourite is Coconut Beach, only a few minutes’ walk along the front stone path. This secluded gem has fewer currents than some others nearby, making it ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Mushroom Bay (Pantai Tanjung Sanghyang) is another must-see, about eight minutes by moped or taxi from Morin. Here, you’ll also find plenty of great restaurants, spas, and local stores full of clothes and souvenirs.
Food & Drink
Morin is home to an exceptional plant-based restaurant, The Playful Table. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner here overlooking vast deep-blue waters, with crashing waves and birdsong the only distractions. The Playful Table emphasises healthy and fresh ingredients that leave you feeling energised.
To find Nusa Lembongan’s hot-spot restaurants and beach clubs, head north to Jungutbatu Beach. Ohana’s features an international food and drinks menu, as well as pools and a prime beachfront position. Or check out Lago Bali, where you can dine at the beach café, enjoy a live DJ set, or grab a beer on the fabulous Pontoon!
For some cruisy eats, explore the local warungs (small, family-owned eateries) and international restaurants along Coconut Beach and Mushroom Bay. Or nab a table for two at Alponte Ristorante, perfect for couples who want to kick back by the pool and beach for a few hours and enjoy incredible Italian food (and a pretty impressive cocktail menu!).
