If you’ve been captivated by the allures of beautiful Bali and can’t choose between the many fabulous locations within this island paradise, Nusa Dua and Jimbaran are a wonderful choice full of five star hotels with plenty to see and do. Jimbaran is just 20 kilometres south of Denpasar and Nusa Dua just 40. This luxury enclave is perfect for travellers looking for a relaxing resort destination.
Local attractions
There are plenty of resorts to choose from. Some resorts offer such a comprehensive menu of activities you might not want to leave. Even so, there are a few must-see sights to explore in Nusa Dua, such as Pantai Geger (Geger Beach). Pantai Geger is a public beach on the western side of Nusa Dua that is safe for swimming and the beach side warungs offer a local experience, with restaurants, lounge chairs and massages.
Another spot to visit is the Water Blow, a blow hole or a rock formation where waves collide onto the rock wall to create a spectacular show by the Indian Ocean.
A boat trip to Serangan Island (Turtle Island) will give couples a chance to swim and snorkel with fish and turtles. The Serangan Turtle Conservation and Education Centre is a turtle conservation area manned by locals who look after turtle eggs in traditional conservation houses until they hatch. The baby turtles are then released into the ocean.
Active holidays
Bali’s Tanjon Benoa is the spot for aqua activities such as parasailing, boat rides, diving, snorkelling and fishing trips. Many hotels will organise activities with local operators as well as provide fun and games at the resort.
Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa has a lovely tropical garden setting, with three swimming pools and a private beach. The hotel’s design conjures up the image of a Balinese palace, decorated with warm Balinese furnishings.
A host of activities are included in the package, from scuba diving lessons to Balinese dancing classes, and enough activities to keep you busy – don’t miss the Balinese fishing tour! The hotel offers plenty of dining choices, including the Balinese Raja’s Restaurant as well as Italian and Asian outlets.
Couples getaway
For those looking for a quiet getaway, The Balé is a boutique adults-only hideaway with 29 luxurious pavilions. It’s the kind of place you’d choose for some luxurious down time and is the perfect spot for a romantic holiday.
Pavilions are furnished with chic interiors and have daybeds and private swimming pools. To top it all off, they are attended by butlers who are available 24 hours a day.
The Spa offers a menu of seminars, workshops and has a roll call of holistic practitioners and wellness experts. Facilities include a swimming pool, library and beach club.
Kayumanis Nusa Dua is another favourite amongst couples who seek the utmost serenity and privacy, only accommodating guests who are 16 years old and over. Adventure during the day and unwind in their luxurious pavilions offering exceptional comfort and privacy within walled gardens by night.
French flair
Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua offers more than a touch of French flair in the tropics. The hotel has expansive tropical gardens and is a sophisticated temple of luxury by the beach.
There are 415 rooms but for a little more privacy and space, there are 39 suites and villas.
Couples with kids will appreciate the resort’s Cheeky Monkey Kids Club where the kids are kept busy while you relax by the pool.
At the nearby Bali Nusa Dua Theatre, you can experience Bali’s culture through a cultural show, dances and acrobatics.
Not far away at Jimbaran Bay, InterContinental Bali is the place to watch the sunset. This resort is another traditional Balinese-designed resort among a lagoon-filled tropical garden.
Hire a fishing boat or visit a local village. Soak up the scene at the Kedonganan Fish Market, which is a daily market where local fishermen sell seafood straight off the boats.
Getting there
Nusa Dua is about a 30-minute drive to Kuta, Bali’s main beach area and 15 minutes from Jimbaran. The international airport is 30 minutes by road. Most hotels can arrange transfers.
