In City Escapes by The H4C Team

Everyone loves a little local knowledge when they travel. So we asked Claire Blackshaw, a British expat who has found a second home as the Director of Public Relations at The Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, where she loves to shop, dine, party and more in one of Asia’s most vibrant cities.

BEST COCKTAIL BAR WITH A VIEW

Aqua Spirit at One Peking Road, newly refurbished and with a divine English General Manager.

BEST ROMANTIC DINNER FOR TWO

I would say Caprice, but perhaps unfair to say our own?! (H4C editors can vouch for that one!). Anywhere can be romantic in Hong Kong, especially when you’re a westerner, because you feel like you’re completely alone – even if everyone else can understand you, you can’t understand them speaking Cantonese, so you feel like you’re in your own world entirely!

BEST NIGHTCLUB FOR GREAT MUSIC

FLY is a personal favourite Dragon-1 is often publicised in magazines, but I have never been. The famed London private members’ club and nightclub Boujis (frequented by the English royal princes!) is opening in Hong Kong later this year.

BEST SHOPPING STREETS

Sham Shui Po, TST (buttons, silks, lace, haberdashery heaven), Gough Street & Cat Street (officially Upper Lascar Row), Sheung Wan

BEST DISCOVERY WALK

Cheung Chau

Little Known but Must-do Activities

1. The Dragon’s Back Walk (part of the Hong Kong Hiking Trail).

2. ‘Hotpot’ – one of the most entertaining styles of eating for non-residents and you may find you are the only table there amongst locals, hotpot is what I know as fondue but in the most delicious soupy broths, cooking fresh greens and raw seafood!

My favourite: Him Kee in Wanchai 1/F, 2/F Workingfield Commerical Building, 408-412 Jaffe Road, Wanchai

3. Go to  Tai Long Wan – the most beautiful beach in Hong Kong! Only accessible via foot, boat or helicopter!
