Uluwatu, the coastal region on the southern tip of Bali, is renowned as a dream destination for many due to its breathtaking beaches and paradise-like clifftop views. Beyond its idyllic seaside landscapes, Uluwatu is also home to many culture-rich Balinese experiences, some of Bali’s best beach clubs and awesome Bali must-do activities for travellers to immerse themselves in. From lounging on Bali’s beautiful beaches to experiencing the exciting nightlife and indulging in yoga and spa sessions, we’ve been lucky enough to spend a lot of time in beautiful Uluwatu and have compiled a guide to 21 awesome things to do and see in beautiful Uluwatu.

1. Uluwatu Temple/Pura Luhur Uluwatu

Pura Luhur Uluwatu, also commonly known as Uluwatu Temple, is undoubtedly a must-do in Bali, let alone in Uluwatu. Uluwatu temple is one of six key temples in Bali, home to a vast and fascinating history dating back to the 11th century. 

Beyond the cultural experience, Uluwatu temple is the place to be for an unforgettable sunset. This spot will deliver an artist’s canvas of orange, purple and pink shimmering in the sky, all visible from a cliff approximately seventy metres above the ocean below.

2. Kecak fire dancing

It is the perfect evening activity to pair with an afternoon spent exploring Uluwatu Temple, as Kecak fire dancing occurs within the temple grounds. 

This performance has a rich cultural and religious meaning for the local people and is one of Bali’s most iconic art performances. As the name suggests, you can expect around fifty people performing traditional dance with various props, including, you guessed it, fire!

3. Chill at Suluban Beach

Beautifully nestled away, Suluban Beach is arguably one of the most picturesque spots in Uluwatu. Whilst this beach is not ideal for swimming, it is a fabulous surfing spot, and the caves over and around the water provide a divine view and feeling of seclusion.

4. Party (or relax!) at Ulu Cliffhouse

Whether you’re keen to catch the challenging breaks or give your first surfing experience a go, Uluwatu’s surf schools provide everything you need to conquer the waves and booking a lesson with one should be on your list of things to do in Uluwatu.

6. Padang Padang Beach

Padang Padang Beach is a beloved gem for travellers and locals for good reason. This must-visit beach is tucked away amidst neighbouring cliffs, boasting silky white sand, lush blue waters, and some of Bali’s best waves. 

This surf haven is adored for its natural beauty and secluded vibes. Not to mention, the magical beach scenes in the world-renowned film Eat Pray Love were filmed at this very spot! The entrance fee to visit Padang Padang beach is 10,000 IDR, roughly 0.75 USD.

20. Pantai Tegal Wangi Cave

Pantai Tegal Wangi Cave is a jaw-dropping gem, home to a natural sea cave leading to a picturesque rocky beach. 

Arguably one of Uluwatu’s most picturesque spots, take advantage of low tide here, where you can explore the cave’s magical interior. Stay for sunset to get the whole Pantai Tegal Wangi experience!

21. GWK Cultural Park

Would you like to learn more about Bali’s rich culture and history while staying in Uluwatu? GWK Cultural Park (Garuda Wisnu Kencana) is the place to put on your list. 

This park is full of Indonesian culture and Hindu heritage, with various performances and exhibitions ready for you to experience. Here, you can find the statue of Lord Vishnu, the tallest statue in Indonesia and the third tallest in the world. For a small extra fee, you can take an elevator ride up nine stories to the top viewing platform for views across the island – spectacular!
