Boutique hotel group Uga has unveiled its seventh property, Uga Prāva, which officially opened its doors on 15 July 2025. Tucked away on the golden shores of Tangalle, this intimate new retreat offers just seven ocean-facing suites, a private beach, and the kind of understated luxury Uga is known for.

Perched on the quiet curve of Tangalle’s coast, Uga Prāva has just seven suites, each facing the sea. Inside, the mood is pared-back and elegant: rattan textures, pale stone, and a soft palette that mirrors the shoreline outside. Balconies and terraces spill out towards the ocean, making even a slow breakfast feel like part of the landscape. The Hermit Suites add a private jacuzzi for long, unhurried evenings; the Coral Suites, with two bedrooms and bathrooms, offer a clever option for families.

The property’s restaurant leans into its setting, with menus built around Sri Lanka’s abundant produce and a flourish of coastal flavours. Breakfast might be hoppers and kola kanda porridge, lunch a mezze of spiced vegetables or seafood poke bowls, while dinners stretch to five-course feasts that balance refinement with tradition. Every dish feels rooted in place yet dressed for occasion.
Wellness is woven through the experience. The spa looks to the ocean and local herbal remedies for inspiration, offering everything from botanical hair rituals to long, flowing massages. Yoga and meditation can be arranged privately, often taking place under the palms with the sound of waves as a backdrop.
With Uga Prāva, the group continues its thoughtful expansion across Sri Lanka, joining a collection that includes Uga Chena Huts in Yala and Uga Ulagalla in Anuradhapura. Nightly rates start from USD462 on a half-board-plus basis.
