They sure know how to party in The Whitsundays — which is why we love to visit for the annual Great Barrier Reef Festival, hosted in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, Airlie Beach. This year’s four-day festival will include a Coral Sea Marina Lantern Parade, GBR workshops and installations, a Comedy Gala, reef-themed street parade, beach parties and more. Make sure you’re in town for the breathtaking Fireworks on the Foreshore, complete with night markets, food stalls, carnival rides and a pop-up beach bar.

2. Airlie Beach Race Week Festival of Sailing
Date: 11-18 August
Ahoy nautical lovers, the Airlie Beach Race Week Festival of Sailing is fast approaching! Now in its 33rd year, this week-long sailing event is hosted at the Whitsunday Sailing Club, Airlie Beach – gateway to the Whitsunday islands and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park – and attracts crews from around the world. Offshore, the Regatta provides classes from IRC competitive racing through to cruising divisions, while onshore the Festival of Sailing is stacked with entertainment, food events and race-themed activities.
Love a good boat race? Extend your short break to include the top-notch food, wine and yachts of Hamilton Island Race Week (20-28 August).

3. White on Whitehaven Long Lunch by Fish D’vine
Date: 9-12 September
