At a glance

Wananavu Beach Resort is a picturesque island resort in a Fijian paradise untouched by mainstream tourism; with friendly staff and a relaxed flair, it’s perfect for anyone looking for “the real Fiji”.

Location

On the unspoilt Sun Coast, on the northernmost point of Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu, and just across from the famous Nananu-i-Ra Island. With Nadi International Airport a two-and-a-half-hour scenic drive away, Wananavu (meaning “wonderful”), combines the convenience of the mainland with the idyllic isolation of an island retreat.

Couples on a romantic getaway will love

The wealth of leisure activities at Wananavu Beach Resort, such as exploring the beautiful coral reef teeming with marine life; savouring a picnic on an picture-postcard island location; enjoying a spot of leisure fishing or taking a charter boat to land the “big one”; and experiencing the real Fiji with a village tour.

Fiji accommodation

There are 34 beautiful one- or two-bedroom bures in four different categories: Garden View, Ocean View or Beachfront and Honeymoon. Set in stunning tropical gardens or on a palm-fringed beach, all offer spacious paradise living and are beautifully appointed and tastefully decorated, with a distinctively Fijian feel. There’s also the four-bedroom Villa Vanua, which has a full kitchen, state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and its own 10-metre pool. To ensure a romantic escape from the modern world, there are no TVs or radios in any of the bures, allowing guests to surrender themselves to the lost art of relaxation. The elevated north-facing aspect affords soothing sea breezes and spectacular views from sunrise to sunset.

Best room for two for a romantic escape

The spectacular honeymoon bures have been designed with romance in mind, and provide the ultimate in luxury and privacy. The spacious bedrooms feature a king-size canopied bed and double doors opening onto a large deck. Here, a private plunge pool and stunning views of white sandy beaches and the Pacific Ocean beckon. There’s also a large comfy lounge, and indoor and outdoor showers.

Dining & leisure

Breakfast, lunch and dinner, the glorious weather means guests often choose to dine on the deck, where they can savour international and local culinary delights against a breathtaking panorama of the clear blue Pacific Ocean. At lunch and dinner, Wananavu serenaders invite guests to join them around the tanoa for a bowl of kava (traditional Fijian drink), while at noon and 6pm, the lali (traditional Fijian tree drum) announces the lighting of the torch – a pre-dinner ritual that’s best accompanied by a pre-dinner drink on the deck at the Sunset Bar. Other dining adventures include romantic and sumptuous picnics on the beach, or a lovo, in which food is wrapped in banana leaves and cooked over hot stones buried underground, according to traditional Fijian techniques. Accompanied by a meke – traditional Fijian storytelling through dance and song – it’s a uniquely Fijian experience… and the food is delicious.

Exciting activities abound in this beautiful part of the world, including world-class scuba diving in the glorious beaches along the Wananavu coral reef. Snorkel gear is also available free of change, and there are daily snorkelling trips to the inner and outer reefs. An activity centre and tour desk is on hand to help guests arrange excursions to experience the real Fiji – or a touch of adventure. There’s an extensive range of free facilities and attractions at Wananavu, including swimming and relaxing by the pool, tennis, volleyball, petanque, Wananavu frisbee golf, guided morning walks and daily fish feeding at the marina. There’s also coconut tree climbing (plus coconut husking, grating demonstrations and sampling), cooking classes with the executive chef, and even crab racing. For a more cultural experience, the resort hosts interesting talks from a local sage on the history and culture of the region, herbal medicine and Fijian flora and fauna.

Spa & wellness

A stay at Wananavu Beach Resort is all about relaxation, so a trip to the Wai Spa is a must. Overlooking swaying coconut palm trees and azure blue waters, it offers sheer indulgence and pampering. Every treatment you could wish for is on offer, including aromatherapy massages, facials, body, hand and nail treatments and special bridal services. Newlyweds can indulge in a 120-minute “Honeymoon Pamper Ritual”: a Harmony Face and Scalp Indulgence and Exotic Manicure for the bride, a Body Therapy Massage for the groom, and two Wananavu sulus to take home.
