How to get to Thailand

If you’re planning to travel to Thailand, you have several options when it comes to airports. The main airports in Thailand include Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), Don Mueang International Airport (DMK), Phuket International Airport (HKT), Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX), Hat Yai International Airport (HDY), and Mae Fah Luang – Chiang Rai International Airport (CEI).

Best Time To Visit Thailand

Thailand is a popular travel destination that can be enjoyed throughout the year. However, if you’re planning to visit the beaches, it’s best to go during the dry and sunny season, which typically lasts from November to early April. The weather favours beach activities during this time, and the crowds are generally smaller. Keep in mind that prices and crowds may fluctuate depending on the season.

Thailand’s weather can vary throughout the year and from region to region, so it’s essential to check the forecast before planning your trip. In the northern part of the country, the dry season lasts from November to May, with cooler temperatures between October and January. The rainy season occurs from June to October. In the south, the west coast experiences the wettest months between April and October, while the east coast has heavy rainfall from September to December. The rest of the year is generally dry and sunny.

Thailand Tourist Visa

Obtaining a tourist visa for Thailand is relatively straightforward for citizens of many countries. Thailand offers a 30-day visa exemption for countries such as Australia, the US, the UK, various European countries, South Africa, and more. It is important to check the official list of eligible countries to ensure you qualify for the visa exemption.

Handy to know:

Although English is commonly spoken in tourist areas of Thailand, showing effort to learn basic phrases in the local language is always appreciated. Here are some essential Thai phrases that can help you communicate and impress locals:

If you are a man, add “khrup” to the end of your phrases, and if you are a woman, use “kaa.”

Hello – Sawadee khrup/kaa

Thank you – khop khun khrup/kaa

Can you speak English? – Khun pood pasa angrit dai mai

Yes – Chai khrup/kaa

No – Mai khrup/kaa

How much? – nee tao rai?

Where is the restroom? – Hong nam yoo tee nai khrup/kaa?

Sorry/excuse me – Khor thoad khrup/kaa

How to Get Around Thailand

When it comes to getting around Thailand, there are several options available. Public transportation is a cost-effective choice, with local buses costing as little as 8 THB per trip and the Metro and Skytrain in Bangkok costing 16-52 THB per trip. For ridesharing, you can download the Grab app (Asia’s version of Uber) and pay either through the app or in cash. While ridesharing is often more affordable than regular taxis, it’s important to note that some drivers may be unreliable.

Another common mode of transportation for short trips is the Songthaews, converted pick-up trucks that can take you wherever you need to go for around 50 THB.

Air travel within Thailand has become more affordable thanks to the emergence of low-cost airlines. However, flights to the islands are generally more expensive (especially to Samui due to low competition with the airlines) than flights between major cities. If you have plenty of time, consider taking the train to explore the country. Although it may be slower, it offers beautiful scenery and a unique Thai experience that adds to the journey.
