Does Vietnam have good beaches?

Angsana-Lang-Co-villas

1. Angsana Lăng Cô

Location: Lăng Cô town is a hidden gem at the foot of the spectacular Hai Van Pass, a 30-minute drive from Danang. Sweeping white-sand beaches stretch as far as the eye can see, and, in 2009, Lang Co Bay was inducted as the third Vietnam member into the ‘Club of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World’, joining spectacular Ha Long Bay and Nha Trang Bay.

Angsana Lăng Cô shares its sprawling 280-hectare space and incredible facilities with its nearby sister property, the renowned, multi-award winning, all-pool resort Banyan Tree Lăng Cô. Together, they created Vietnam’s first integrated resort, the Laguna Lăng Cô, noted as one of Vietnam’s best beach resorts.

Rooms: There are 229 rooms and suites in various configurations (including two-level loft suites), all with spectacular views of the sea, lagoon, or mountains, and many with private pools. Spacious, stylish, and colourful interiors marry chic, contemporary decor with traditional Vietnamese decorative elements and tasteful, well-placed pops of vibrant colour.

Food & drink: You’re in for a treat with five restaurants, two bars, plus a pool bar and destination dining on the beach. The resort’s most visually dynamic restaurant is Rice Bowl, with a selection of gigantic lobster baskets reimagined as private dining nooks — simply stunning!

Couples will love: The stunning ‘lazy river’ lagoon pool that meanders more than 300 metres around the entire resort. It’s the longest pool in Southeast Asia, and you can see it from just about any spot on the property.

2. Banyan Tree Lăng Cô

Location: The ultra-luxe Banyan Tree Lăng Cô is an all-pool villa resort set on the remote central coast of Vietnam, in the foothills of the Truong Son mountains and on the longest private beach in Lăng Cô. Taking cues from Vietnam’s rich cultural heritage, the resort villas are dotted along the beach, overlooking lush greenery and a lagoon, or perched on the hillside with views of the sea.

This is regarded as one of Vietnam’s best luxury beach resorts, so expect a chic, relaxed experience replete with memorable dining and engaging activities, such as golf on the Sir Nick Faldo-designed championship course.

Rooms: There are three types of accommodation at Banyan Tree Lăng Cô, and they’re all luxe and lovely. Set in lush private gardens around the natural lagoon, between the mountains and the sea, Lagoon Pool Villas are ‘entry level’ accommodation, but you’d never know it. They’re further back from the beach and the main building than the other villas and, therefore, are the quietest and most secluded.

And who even needs the beach when you have your own private pool? Dotting the shores of Canh Duong beach, Beach Pool Villas (which have an outdoor Jacuzzi in addition to a pool) are located right on the sand, creating the feeling that you’re in your own private beach house. Then there’s the highest category accommodation, the Hilltop Pool Villas (with one or two bedrooms). Ranging from 152 to 237 sqm, they have an enormous pool and outdoor terrace/lounge area and, because they’re high on a hillside (25-86 metres above sea level!), they enjoy incredible views over the entire beach.

Food & drink: On-site dining at Banyan Tree Lăng Cô spans a menu of Vietnamese, Italian and Thai, with even more choices at Angsana Lăng Cô next door, plus romantic Destination Dining options for special celebrations. Vietnamese and international cuisine are served at Water Court, a contemporary open-concept restaurant overlooking the resort’s main pool area. The breezy beachfront and poolside Azura serves casual Italian fare at lunchtime – including top-notch seafood and crispy thin pizza prepared on the open pizza counter and cooked in a wood-fired oven – while at Thu Quan, the Banyan Tree’s authentic Vietnamese bar, there’s an all-day snack menu and cocktails. Their signature restaurant, Saffron, serves traditional Thai food that’s even more delicious than dining in Thailand!

Couples will love: A spa treatment is a must when staying at a Banyan Tree property as they are world-famous for good reason! If you really want to treat yourselves, book a Sanctuary Pool Villa, which gives you unlimited spa treatments. How good is that?!

3. InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort

Location: Danang is the largest city in Central Vietnam, with an international airport allowing you to fly in from many Asian cities. Halfway between Hanoi in the north and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in the south, it is known for its dreamy beaches, with My Khe voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world by discerning readers of Forbes magazine.

Set on a private bay and hidden in the myth-filled hills of ‘Monkey Mountain’ in the heart of the Son Tra Nature Reserve, the five-star InterContinental Danang Resort is a work of art as much as a resort. This is one of our top picks for Vietnam’s best beach resorts!

Rooms: Indulgences fill each room, suite, penthouse and villa while interiors drape you in Vietnamese-inspired décor. The bold black-and-white palette forms a classic backdrop against which carefully placed splashes of colour emerge. All accommodation has lavish bathroom amenities, including a separate bathtub and rainforest shower. A Seaside Villa with a private pool is our recommendation for a romantic honeymoon or holiday, but all rooms are divine!

Food & drink: InterContinental is a true dining destination for couples who appreciate the best in life. From delectable grilled seafood and the finest cuts of meat to Vietnamese delicacies and fine dining from their three-star Michelin chef, guests are offered an exciting array of tastes and experiences. Most renowned is La Maison 1888, an award-winning spot for French-influenced fine dining.

Couples will love: Getting to know the local culture at nearby Hoi An Ancient Town, with tours and experiences organised by the resort’s ‘In the Know’ concierge service.

4. Naman Retreat

The elegant design by famous Vietnamese architect Vo Trong Nghia, using bamboo and stone, is stunning, especially surrounded by the impeccable gardens and fronted by the white sands and blue water of Danang Beach. Without a doubt, this is one of Vietnam’s best luxury beach resorts!

Rooms: Luxurious villas of one to three bedrooms with plunge pools blend modern architecture with natural materials, and the Sunlit Suites and Babylon Rooms offer a calm space with every amenity.

Food & drink: Diners in Hay Hay Restaurant will love the traditional architecture with soaring bamboo columns creating a fantastic ambience. Chefs use the best local produce to create dishes that draw on the culinary heritage of the country’s different regions.

6. Anantara Quy Nhon Villas

Location: Approximately halfway between Danang and Nha Trang, the city of Quy Nhon is yet to be added to the international tourist trail and retains an authentic small-town charm. It’s around a 40-minute drive from the domestic airport of Phu Cat or the train station in Quy Nhon if you’ve availed yourself of the Vietage train journey from Danang. The Vietage trip is only available to guests of Anantara Hoi An Resort, and this unforgettable luxury rail adventure will add something special to your holiday or honeymoon in Vietnam. There’s little around the resort for dining or activities, making this resort a true destination in itself!

Rooms: There are just 26 villas spread across almost three hectares of landscaped grounds fronting a private cove. One and two-bedroom Ocean View or Beachfront Villas are set on the beach or the hillside, each offering panoramic views and a plunge pool. Honeymoon perfection!

Food & drink: Sea Fire Salt offers gourmet breakfasts, lunch and dinner with a wine cellar stocking rare vintages. Casual fare is to be found at the pool bar and lobby lounge.

Location: A 90-minute drive south of Quy Nhon’s Phu Cat airport is the stunning Zannier Hotels Bãi San Hô eco-resort, which sits on a secluded peninsula in Phu Yen Province. It’s way off the tourist trail, but well worth the extra time as it’s one of the country’s most authentic and best beach resorts! The essence and philosophy of Zannier Hotels Bãi San Hô is a desire to share Vietnam’s rich culture and history. The interiors are dotted with Vietnamese artefacts, paintings and local silk prints, and while the colours are rich and earthy, the furnishings are a contemporary take on traditional style. Together they create a unique and traditional Vietnamese environment.

Rooms: With 73 villas strung across 93 hectares of beautiful grounds, the choice of where to stay is yours. Should you stay in a villa by a verdant rice paddy field or on a hilltop with expansive sea and land views? Our pick for couples is a beach pool villa built in the Cham heritage style with private pool steps from the powder-white sands of the tranquil bay — honeymoon heaven!

Enjoy a barbecue on the beach at Lang Chai or share a delectable fixed-menu offering of ten communal dishes and dessert at Ba Hai, an impressive 12-metre high building on stilts, very characteristic with its steep ceiling of bamboo, rattan and wood.

Couples will love: There are some fabulous excursions on offer, including a local lifestyle tour, a basket boat experience, a fisherman and craft village exploration, and many land and water activities to immerse couples in the local lifestyle.

8. Six Senses Ninh Van Bay

Location: This secluded retreat on an island off the coast of Nha Trang is one of the country’s finest five-star boutique beach resorts and is only accessible by a 20-minute boat trip. Set in a sheltered bay, this is a special stay that’s big on castaway charm, couple-approved privacy, and barefoot luxury.

Rooms: The beautiful thatched-roof villas each come with a plunge pool, handcrafted wooden bathtub, and their own mini wine cellar! 16. Regent Phu Quoc

Location: Vietnam’s largest island is relatively unknown among international travellers, and much of this gorgeous escape remains rustic and undeveloped. But the 2022 debut of the sumptuous Regent Phu Quoc, one of Vietnam’s best luxury beach resorts, is helping to transform the sleepy and scenic isle into an international luxury destination. Besides domestic flights from Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City, there are now direct flights from Hong Kong, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, so you can tie this island destination in with a more extensive Asian honeymoon or holiday itinerary.

Located on the island’s west coast (yes, the sunsets are SENSATIONAL) and set around two lakes, Regent features two main wings for guest rooms, a plethora of villas nestled into intimate gardens, a sprawl of white-sand beachfront, and a stunning main pool framed by towering Grecian-style columns. The hotel offers five pools in total, but you’ll be hard-pressed to need any of them since every suite and villa comes with its own infinity pool!

Rooms: The 176 suites and 126 villas all share the same contemporary aesthetic with gleaming black floors and a warm palette of blues, beige and taupe. The creamy marble bathrooms feature a spacious standalone tub and separate shower. Our pick is either the King Beach Pool Villa situated right on Long Beach or a King Sky Pool Villa boasting unobstructed, breathtaking ocean views.

Food & drink: Six restaurants and bars ensure you’ll always have somewhere to indulge your tastebuds, starting with the breakfast buffet at Rice Market. Oku has the island’s only omakase counter, serving beautifully plated Japanese-French dishes. Come cocktail time, choose your poison at Jade Bar, a sexy speakeasy that resembles a luxury train car, or the rooftop Fu Bar with its infinity pool.

Couples will love: A sunset cruise on the resort’s luxury catamaran Serenity with canapés and Champagne. Or, if you’re ready to pop the question, book the Serenity for a romantic cruise à deux for the ultimate romantic style!

17. La Verandah Resort Phu Quoc

Location: As soon as you step into this dreamy beach resort, you’ll be transported back in time to an era when stress-free, relaxed travel was the order of the day. Situated on Phu Quoc’s stunning south-west coast, this elegant hotel ticks all the boxes for couples looking for the perfect hideaway to enjoy a few days of romance and fun while travelling around Vietnam.

Reminiscent of a 1920s French colonial-style mansion, this is undoubtedly one of Vietnam’s best beach resorts with first-class swimming pool facilities, a spa, and one of the country’s best restaurants. Being next to the downtown area means there are shops, cafes, bars and restaurants close by too.

Rooms: Spacious and charming, the rooms in the main house feature grand four-poster beds and high ceilings. The suites located in either the gardens or by the sea offer private terraces and plenty of space to relax. Our pick for a honeymoon or romantic getaway would be the Ocean Villa, just steps from the beach and with a private terrace and garden. Stunning!

Food & drink: The Pepper Tree restaurant is noted as the best dining experience on Phu Quoc Island, dishing up an artful blend of Pacific Rim cuisine, while all-day dining takes place at Le Jardin by the beach. Sundowners are best enjoyed relaxing in a vintage armchair at Le Bar Sunset Bar & Terrace.

Couples will love: Creating magical moments together is what a holiday or honeymoon is all about. So, imagine what memories you could create with your own ‘Romance Concierge’ whose sole job is helping you design the perfect escape with the resort’s indulgent experiences.
