Where: Lankanfushi Island in North Malé Atoll, a 20-minute boat ride from the capital, Malé.

Where: On Noonu Atoll, a 40-minute seaplane ride north of the capital, Malé.

What: Forty-five modern villas, each with a private infinity pool, and so gorgeous even the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have stayed here. The resort is surrounded by the Maldives’ famous white-sand beaches and aquamarine waters, with impressive diving and snorkelling sites nearby. There are five different restaurants, including seafood dishes and coconut curries at the Deelani (which is on stilts and open on two sides) and wonderful French cuisine in the fine-dining Le 1947.
