2. Treehotel, Sweden
What: Six dramatic, architect-designed suites, perched 4-6m above the ground; some suspended, some on stilts.
Where: Located in a pine forest outside Harads, a small town (population 600) in northern Sweden.
Why: Modern, eccentric and oh-so cool, they are quite simply the most unique tree houses on the planet, resembling everything from a bird’s nest to a flying saucer. The ingenious, beautiful mirror cube suite almost seems invisible as it reflects the forest on all six sides (but don’t worry: a special infrared film prevents birds from hitting the glass).
What else: Enjoy fabulous Nordic experiences: fishing and kayaking in summer; snowshoe hiking, dog-sledding and Northern Lights-watching in winter.
