Australia’s oldest bathhouse has thrown open its doors once again after an extensive $1.7 million renovation that honours its 130-year heritage whilst delivering a thoroughly modern wellness experience.

The iconic Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa in Daylesford has emerged from its makeover with five brand-new private bathing areas, each designed to offer couples an intimate escape amongst the property’s famous mineral-rich waters. The renovation gained additional star power through its collaboration with contestants from Channel 9’s The Block season 21, with audiences set to watch the transformation unfold over several weeks of television coverage.
The official reopening ceremony brought together Belgravia Group Chairman Geoff Lord and Hepburn Shire Mayor Cr Don Henderson, marking the start of a new chapter for Victoria’s most treasured wellness destination.

The private bathing areas are just the beginning. Visitors can still enjoy the traditional Sanctuary and Bathhouse Mineral baths, now complemented by new spa treatments and the hands-on Apothecary experience that lets couples blend their own body scrubs from natural ingredients. All 23 on-site villas continue welcoming overnight guests, and the Pavilion café has rolled out a new menu that puts local ingredients front and centre.
The work didn’t stop at adding new facilities. Change rooms have been completely overhauled, the entrance redesigned, and fresh tiling and lighting installed throughout. The team also restored the original heritage ceilings and put in a new sound system—every decision made with the bathhouse’s rich history in mind.

“We approached this restoration with deep respect for the property’s heritage, which means so much to the local community,” Lord explained. “Our goal was to modernise the guest experience whilst preserving the soul of this remarkable place that has supported health and wellness across Victoria for more than a century.”

The spa’s new treatment offerings showcase this balance between tradition and innovation. Four signature body rituals have been introduced, including the standout Cacao Chocolate and Shiraz Body Scrub developed with Australian spa brand Waterlily. Facial treatments now feature products from internationally recognised skincare house Elemis, whilst the renovated aromatherapy steam room provides a purifying sanctuary for couples seeking deep relaxation.

For couples after a romantic getaway, the timing works beautifully. The new private spaces, upscale treatments, and Daylesford’s picturesque hill country backdrop deliver something that feels both classic and completely fresh.
The upcoming Block episodes will put the bathhouse in front of millions of viewers, likely drawing fresh faces to a place that’s already earned its stripes as one of Victoria’s most loved wellness retreats. But the real test will be whether all these improvements can bring in new visitors while keeping what locals have treasured for generations.
The property’s bushwalking trails continue to offer peaceful exploration opportunities, whilst Daylesford’s boutique shopping and dining scene provides perfect day-trip additions to any spa getaway.
