A significant development that has our Holidays for Couples team in Brisbane feeling especially proud is Delta Air Lines’ introduction of its inaugural seasonal flights between Los Angeles and the Queensland capital. The inaugural flight, which touched down on Friday, 6 December 2024, marks Delta’s very first service into Queensland and establishes a crucial new corridor connecting two future Olympic host cities: Los Angeles in 2028 and Brisbane in 2032.
Arriving with a special LA28 Olympics livery, the Airbus A350-900 symbolically united these global sporting destinations. “This one aircraft has today bridged two Olympic host cities and strengthened ties between the United States and Queensland,” said Brisbane Airport Chief Executive Officer, Gert-Jan de Graaff. “We are over the moon that Brisbane is now Delta’s second destination in Australia.”
The timing could not be better. As of today, Brisbane welcomes 31 weekly flights from North America—five carriers serving four major hubs—boosting capacity to 135 per cent of pre-pandemic levels. For Queensland-based couples, these new connections mean more convenient escapes into the cultural and culinary heartlands of the United States and Canada, whether savouring local wines in California’s Napa Valley or discovering the historic charm of Québec City. Equally, for North American travellers looking to indulge in romantic journeys amid lush rainforests or along pristine coastlines, Brisbane’s enhanced accessibility offers a more seamless route into Queensland’s many delights—and indeed the rest of Australia.
Beyond tourism, the route strengthens economic ties with each A350 able to carry up to 20 tonnes of freight, providing Queensland producers—think chilled beef, seafood, and mangoes—with greater opportunities to reach the US market. Travel experts say this growing network responds to soaring demand and reinforces Brisbane’s prominence on the global stage.
With Delta and Brisbane Airport set to celebrate their centenaries in 2025, this new service signals a future defined by enhanced connectivity, trade, and opportunity—where travellers can savour the best Queensland offers.
