If heights don’t bother you and you have a self-confessed love of glamour, head to Switzerland’s Zermatt for your end-of-year escape. Featuring 250,000 Swarovski crystals, a newly opened cableway that leads to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise is also the world’s highest… and it features a see-through floor. Now that’s taking style to new heights!
Officially opened after two-and-a-half years of construction, the new cableway is set to be a star attraction for Switzerland’s winter season. Taking in breathtaking views, the nine-minute journey will take thrill-seekers to the peak of the world-famous Klein Matterhorn in dazzling style. Four of the service’s 25 gondolas are encrusted in sparkling crystals, capturing the sunlight and creating an opulent backdrop for a cheeky holiday selfie.
Sure to get hearts racing, though, is the gondolas’ other special feature. The first of their kind in Switzerland, the gondolas’ floors turn from opaque to clear three minutes into the journey, thanks to an active laminate glass sheet powered by electricity. Revealing the magnificent landscape below, the feature makes for an exhilarating experience.
