Taiwan has been accumulating the kind of credentials that make it hard to ignore as an active travel destination. Sun Moon Lake, where World Expeditions’ new seven-day cycling journey begins, was this year awarded a 2026 Tour de France Cycle City designation — one of only 25 destinations worldwide and just six outside France. Taiwan’s annual Cycling Festival runs September to December 2026. The timing of this launch feels deliberate.
The Taiwan Cycle: Mountains, Culture & Coast itinerary takes riders from Sun Moon Lake through the Nantou Valley, into Taiwan’s tea-growing hills and down the famous 36 Bends — an 11.8km road of 36 numbered hairpin turns that is as dramatic as it sounds. The route continues through Tainan, Taiwan’s historic former capital and one of the country’s great food cities (this year gaining its first Michelin-starred restaurant as part of the expanded 2026 Michelin Guide Taiwan), before heading south through rural valleys and hot springs to the Pacific coast, finishing near Baisha and Nanwan beaches on the southern peninsula.

Daily rides range from 30km to 66km across undulating terrain with climbs and descents, suited to confident cyclists with a good base fitness. A bilingual expert guide accompanies the group alongside a mechanic and support vehicle. A 24-speed GIANT bike is included; e-bikes are available on request. Accommodation is in three-star hotels throughout.
The inaugural departure is 16 November 2026, with selected departures from March to November 2027. For bookings: worldexpeditions.com
