Museo Atlántico – Lanzarote, Spain
Visiting this new gallery is something every avid scuba diver will want to add to their bucket list. Eerie yet utterly fascinating, the completely submergedMuseo Atlántico is an underwater exhibition of sculptures from renowned British artist Jason deCaires Taylor. Located off the coast of the Spanish island of Lanzarote, the gallery currently showcases 70 sculptures, with plans for up to 300 pieces.
Representing everything from selfie-taking tourists to refugees, the sculptures will transform as they become slowly colonised by marine life – you can see similar results at MUSA (Underwater Museum of Art), the monumental underwater museum opened by deCaires Taylor in 2009 in the waters surrounding Cancun and Isla Mujeres off the coast of Mexico. Adventure with a touch of culture? Tick.
