Visit Cambodia in November for the Water & Moon Festival

In Travel News by The H4C Team

This November, couples looking for a unique reason to visit Cambodia can enjoy the Cambodian Water Festival or Bon Om Touk.

The traditional Khmer festival is celebrated on the date of the full moon each year (usually in November) and marks the end of the rainy season and the reversal of the flow of the Tonle Sap River.

Siem Reap makes a fantastic home base to take in the festivities, which include boat races, night-time boat parades with illuminated vessels, carnival rides and traditional music and dance performances.

Couples in Cambodia during this celebration will also have the opportunity to try Dal Om Bok – a special cake that is only made at this time of year to celebrate the Water Festival – and to take part in the salutation of the moon or Sampeah Preah Khe.

Journeys Within Tour Company is offering guests a special two-day Water & Moon Festival touring package in Siem Reap that will expose guests to the best of this unique festival. Highlights include:

November 13, 2016: Wake up early to witness monks performing a traditional water blessing to each of the decorated boats taking part in the festivities before embarking on a village tour where you will witness the baking of the Dal Om Bok cakes. In the afternoon, return to the river to witness the boat races.

November 14, 2016: Spend the day enjoying the boat races or exploring other parts of Siem Reap. In the evening, your guide will bring you back to the river to receive a traditional floating lantern which you will later launch on the river with thousands of others. Tonight is the night of the full moon, and the festivities continue into the night including a final fireworks display that concludes the ceremonies.

If looking at a Southeast Asia getaway in November, travellers should be planning now if they would like to attend the Water & Moon Festival in Siem Reap as accommodations will become more difficult to get as the festival approaches.

Journeys Within is currently offering Bon Om Touk festival tours to both its tour company guests as well as to clients of partner agencies and tour operators through its Journeys Within Ground Operations service.
