TripAdvisor has released its Travellers’ Choice Awards for Destinations on the Rise in 2018 and it seems that we’re dreaming of escaping to some uniquely special places.
Taking out the top spot, Japan’s tiny island of Ishigaki (often referred to as the nation’s Hawaii) has us packing our bags. Blessed with white sandy beaches (yes, we’re still talking about Japan), coral reefs and pristine blue waters, the island destination is also known for its unique soba noodles made from flour instead of the traditional buckwheat. We’re sold.
Also ranking in the top five was Hawaii’s tiny town of Kapaa, Kenya’s safari hotspot of Nairobi, the cultural hub of Halifax in Canada’s Nova Scotia and Poland’s beautiful port city of Gdańsk.
Made up of 44 ‘on the rise’ destinations, the list also features destinations in Costa Rica, Latvia, Croatia, Spain and Morocco. Put together by measuring year-over-year increase in positive TripAdvisor traveller review ratings, it looked at factors like accommodation, dining, attractions and booking interest.
