The festival will celebrate New Zealand's local flavours

New Zealand-bound foodies, there's another reason to brave the cold this winter. The destination's first national food celebration, Feast Matariki will showcase traditional Māori flavours throughout June and July. Featuring over 100 gourmet events across New Zealand's major cities and regional areas, it'll make for amazing holiday memories.

From special themed dinners and street parties to Matariki dish competitions and traditional hāngis, there'll be plenty to whet couples' appetites. Highlights include indulgent chocolate and whisky tastings in Dunedin, a five-course chef-prepared beer-matched dinner in Matakana and an exciting cooking safari in Hawkes Bay.

Seeking a unique experience? Head along to Christchurch's first annual Mushroom Market, sample delicious mushroom dishes, sip matching New Zealand wines and talk to passionate local farmers and hunters.

Run by Eat New Zealand (a local food movement that connects people with New Zealand's land through food), Feast Matariki will have plenty to impress gourmands. To find out more, visit the festival's website here.
