Wine-lovers, there's another reason to add Auckland to the must-visit list

It's no secret that New Zealand is a haven for wine-lovers. And now one special event is making the idea of crossing the ditch for a little wine-tasting all the more tempting. Bringing together the country's acclaimed winemakers this June (13-23), the inaugural Auckland Wine Week will be one for the calendar!

Celebrating wines from New Zealand's renowned Waiheke Island, West Auckland and Matakana regions, the festival will feature everything from cellar door visits and a fabulous launch dinner feast to Auckland-centric tastings at restaurants and bars.

Enjoy cellar door-visits and plenty of wine-tasting

Sure to be a highlight, the country's largest wine-tasting event, Winetopia (June 14-15), will showcase 60 of New Zealand's top wineries at Auckland's Queens Wharf. There'll also be tutored tastings, talks and masterclasses by New Zealand Master of Wine Bob Cambell and renowned Australian wine writer Nick Stock.

Auckland Wine Week organiser Rob Eliott says the festival will shine a light on the city and it's surrounding region. "There is a whole world of wine to be discovered on Auckland’s doorstep, from Waiheke Island with its stunning syrah, world-class chardonnay, intense cabernet blends and fine aromatics, to internationally recognised elegant chardonnay, merlot and cabernet sauvignon in the west, and excellent pinot gris, syrah, cabernet blends and emerging red varieties in the north," says Elliott.
