The Whitsundays island resort has reopened after extensive renovations

Whether you're new to the Whitsundays or you're regular-visitors, there's plenty to inspire a romantic getaway in this breathtaking destination – from amazing scenery to luxurious newly opened resorts. Ticking both boxes, Daydream Island Resort has opened its doors following extensive renovations. Boasting a slew of fantastic features and a hard-to-beat location, this revamped offering promises a very relaxing escape.

Officially welcoming its first guests today, Daydream Island Resort has been given new life after being severely damaged in 2017's Tropical Cyclone Debbie. Now, the Whitsundays hideaway looks every bit the island resort idyll, with 277 contemporary rooms and suites, a sleek pool-with-a-view and an array of new dining options.

Rooms and suites have been given a fresh, contemporary look

Offering guests the perfect place to unwind, the resort's renovated accommodation options include views of either the tropical gardens or pool, or out to the ocean. Rooms and suites feature a modern feel, plus private balconies and outdoor terraces that open out to stunning vistas.

Perfect for those wanting to discover the Whitsundays' marvellous natural beauty, Daydream Island Resort is also now home to a free-form coral lagoon spanning 200 metres. Holding over 1.5-million litres of fresh water and teeming with hundreds of marine fish, coral, stingrays and sharks, the 'Living Reef' is sure to win over nature-lovers. There's also a fantastic underwater observatory four metres below the water's surface for those that want to see the reef without getting wet, while special guided snorkelling adventures with the resort's marine biologists are also on offer.

The Living Reef will feature an underwater observatory

Adding to it all, activities like helicopter tours, sailboat- and jet-ski hire and non-motorised water sports keep the 'summertime getaway' atmosphere alive. Planning a mid-year escape? The resort will also welcome a refurbished outdoor cinema in June – perfect for romantics!

Rounding everything out, three new restaurants and bars (respectively) invite couples to discover the region's culinary side. Serving up Asian-fusion cuisine, Infinity is Daydream Island Resort's premium dining option, while Inkstone Kitchen and Bar focuses on modern Australian fare made with local produce and native Australian flavours. Want more? With views of the Living Reef, the resort's speciality gin bar, Tonic, provides a lovely setting for toasting the occasion. Graze Interactive Dining, Barefoot Bar and Silica are set to open in the coming months – watch this space.
