See Australia's spellbinding outback when you take part in the Rural Aid Jalopy Derby

Always wanted to explore Australia's spectacular outback? A fantastic opportunity for adventure-seeking couples, the inaugural 2019 Rural Aid Jalopy Derby will cover some seriously amazing landscapes, all while raising funds for drought-affected rural communities. Travellers, start your engines…

Running August 24-31, the thrilling event will see 100 teams drive 2,500 kilometres from Sydney to Airlie Beach. Carefully planned to ensure participants will pass through as many drought-affected areas as possible, the event's route will also take in some of the outback's most iconic landmarks and locations.

Highlights of the journey include The George Hotel in Carinda where David Bowie filmed his 'Let's Dance' video and Lightning Ridge (famous for its opal mines, hot springs and incredible art galleries). Want more? In Queensland's Longreach, participants will experience a special guided tour of the Qantas Founders Museum – do not miss.

Interested in taking part? Basically anyone can get involved – if you're not exactly a mechanical genius, organisers will even group you up with more experienced teams. All you need is an old jalopy, a passion for fundraising and a sense of wanderlust.
