Ever checked into a hotel, dumped your bags in your room, spotted a blank wall and thought 'I could do something with that'? At Australia's Art Series Hotels, guests are invited to get creative to transform a white-washed guest room into an exciting collaborative project. Curious? Prepare to release your inner interior designer.
Running until December 30 at the group's The Blackman (Melbourne), the Johnson (Brisbane) and The Olson (Sydney) hotels, the Colour Your Stay project will will see guests let loose with spray cans and paintbrushes. At check in, they'll be given the art essentials (plus a gown, mask and gloves) and shown to a 'blank canvas' room where they can get in touch with their artistic side for two minutes – now that's what we call a unique hotel experience!
It'll all centre around a piece from Australian street-art and stencil movement pioneer Luke Cornish (aka ELK) depicting each of the hotels' namesakes. At the end of the project, the rooms will take on a new character, created by hundreds of guests. Archibald Portrait Prize and Sulman Prize finalist Cornish says the project is testament to Art Series Hotels' dedication to showcasing incredible creativity. "Their dedication to supporting urban art and all of its wonderful satellite genres is a passion I share and I'm really excited to see what we create together with guests," says Cornish.
