If you like your accommodation to be on the quirky side, head to Switzerland before August. Switzerland Tourism has launched a series of fabulous pop-up hotels in a range of unique locations not usually associated with overnight stays. From a fishing cabin at Fishcergalgen in Basel to a 14th-century fairytale-like fortified tower, these offerings are truly special.
Noticing a desire amongst travellers to see Switzerland's 'hidden gems', the tourism group teamed up with hoteliers to furbish and service rooms in hand-picked locations. Incredible options include the city tower in Baden, the UNESCO World Heritage-liste site of Torre Nera Castelgrande, Bern's Old Customs House, a floating hotel in Schaffhausen and an old ballroom in Vevey.
The pop-up hotels will only run for the three-month summer period ending in August, with rooms priced from AU$200 per night. To find out more or to make a booking, visit MySwitzerland.com here.
