Bruny Island, TasmaniaBruny Island, Tasmania, Australia

Known for its ruggedly romantic landscapes, sensational wildlife (look out for seals, penguins and wallabies here) and incredible foodie experiences, Tasmania's Bruny Island has all the makings for an unforgettable getaway.

Fill the days with visits to the island's cheese factories and distilleries, and explore its deserted beaches and craggy mountains on a scenic hike before settling in somewhere cosy for the night with a bottle of red.

Nordkapp, NorwayNordkapp, Norway

Few places look like the 'edge of the world' like the icy mountainscapes of Scandinavia. A perfect example of this, Norway's Nordkapp (translating to North Cape) is truly magical. The converging point of the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, this fascinating spot experiences constant sunlight between mid-May and late-June, and the only dry land here between you and the North Pole is the Svalbard archipelago.

There's more to see here, though, than just stark landscapes. Couples will be impressed by the birdlife that calls Nordkapp's Gjesværstappan home, as well as the delicious seafood on offer. And, of course, there's winter sports to enjoy and – a real must-see – the illusive northern lights to chase.

Skeleton Coast, NamibiaSkeleton Coast, Namibia

Those who want to channel their inner explorer will love Namibia's somewhat eerie Skeleton Coast. Stretching across nearly 500 kilometres of coastline, the captivating spot features eye-catching salt pans and clay castles, and is dotted with almost countless rusted shipwrecks.

There is life to be found here, though, with lions, giraffes, zebras, elephants, rhinos and black-backed jackals inhabiting the Skeleton Coast National Park. See it all for yourselves on safari and fit in time for marvelling at the coast's giant sand dunes.

Aleutian Islands, AlaskaAleutian Islands, Alaska, US

If you're more into cool climates, set your sights for Alaska's wild Aleutian Islands. Seeming to sweep westward from the state's south to the middle of the Bering Sea, a collection of tiny scattered isles make up this wonderful destination.

Adventure-seekers, tick off active volcanoes, ancient Aleut village sites and agate beaches for a holiday like no other.

Chatham Islands, New ZealandChatham Islands, New Zealand

Nature-lovers and thrill-seekers alike will find the ultimate destination in New Zealand's Chatham Islands. Located 800 kilometres east of Christchurch, this isolated spot is comprised of 11 islands (only two are inhabited), each blessed with features like volcanic peaks, towering cliffs, forests, beaches and pristine lagoons.

Don't miss taking in a heart-stopping sunset with no one as far as the eye can see and sampling the local straight-from-the-water seafood.
