The tiny island nation that celebs are pledging to protect

A-listers holidaying on tropical islands certainly isn’t anything new, but there’s one tiny island nation that has names like Leonardo DiCaprio pledging their respect.

The world’s thirteenth smallest nation, Palau has become the first country to ask all inbound visitors to make a compulsory promise, directly to its children, to preserve their home. Aimed at preserving the nation’s vibrant culture and beautiful natural environment, the world-first eco-initiative is also hoped to encourage the protection of similar small nations.

Sharing a video filmed in Palau on his Instagram, actor Leonardo DiCaprio also posted the caption ‘Proud to support the #PalauPledge, a new conservation initiative for visitors to this beautiful island’. Deemed necessary after careless behaviour from visitors started to erode the island’s pristine environment, the pledge will see large fines for those who break its conditions and commit offences.
