Once an icon in the world of Vietnamese cuisine, Cafe L’Imperial (renamed Vietnam House) is reopening thanks to one of the world’s most glamorous hotels, The Reverie Saigon.
Known for its ultra-luxe style and fabulous fine dining, the Ho Chi Minh hotel has partnered with celebrity chef Luke Nguyen to breathe new life into Vietnam House. Located off-property on the fashionable Dong Khoi Street, the restaurant is just moments away from the Reverie, yet features its signature lavish flair.
Originally opened in the early 1900s and renamed as Vietnam House in 1992, the restaurant has been revitalised to showcase its original French colonial-inspired style and to offer authentic Vietnamese high-end dining experiences.
Tying the restaurant’s past with the future, chef Luke Nguyen has crafted a menu that fuses both his Vietnamese and Australian backgrounds. Familiar favourites such as banh xeo (crispy Vietname-style savoury pancakes filled with local produce and fresh tofu) can be tasted, along with elevated versions of classics like Wagyu La Lot (succulent Japanese beff served with betel leaves, herbs and angel hair noodles). A reference to the chef’s Australian ties, fusion dishes such as Australian pork ribs slow-cooked in young coconut juice with carrot puree and chou sum are also on offer, as is a fantastic selection of seafood.
