The Office of the President of the Philippines has announced that Boracay island will be closed to tourists for a maximum of six months to facilitate the island’s planned rehabilitation. Effective April 26, the closure will also see the five-star Shangri-La Boracay Resort & Spa shut its doors.
The resort has said in an official statement that they are working to help travellers that have booked accommodation for this period. “Our immediate priority is as siting our guests and clients who have existing reservations at the resort,” it reads. “We are also working on an interim plan to care for our employees when the six-month closure goes into effect.”
