The Cook Islands are truly paradise on earth – a place everyone should experience at least once in their lives. Laid-back and casual with a friendly atmosphere, Rarotonga, the main island of the Cooks, will be where you spend most days. Because you can circumnavigate the island by car in just 45 minutes, it really doesn’t matter in which area you choose to base yourself. Here’s a review of two of our favourite places to stay but there are many more – go and discover them.

When travelling through Myanmar most travellers will spend at least a night or two in Yangon, a fascinating city to be sure but one singularly lacking in five-star accommodation. But enter the long teak walkway from reception to the main buildings of the Governor’s Residence, an almost century-old mansion built of teak and located in the verdant Embassy Quarter of the city and all thoughts of sleeping rough vanish in the blink of an eye.

Surrounded by lush mountains and hot springs, Taipei is a bustling, modern city. While many think of China when they think Taiwan, the country is a very different travel experience to mainland China. Taiwan is unique thanks to its mix of cultural influences from other countries including Japan, America and, of course, China.

When The Ritz-Carlton opened in Macau this year, it heralded the start of a new era. As the group’s first all-suite property anywhere in the world, it is a huge vote of confidence for Macau. Situated at The Galaxy, an integrated leisure and entertainment precinct that’s a destination within a destination, guests have dozens of restaurants and bars, world-class shopping, movies, and an aquatic adventure park all at their doorstep. Less than two months from opening day, reviewers on TripAdvisor voted the hotel Macau’s best. Given that Macau offers a staggering number of luxury hotels, this is quite an achievement in such a short time.
