Why we can’t wait to return to Rottnest

Winter guest enticements, September-long Quokka Birthday celebrations, and coastal-cool beach retreat Samphire Rottnest throwing open its doors in October. What a perfect time to plan your escape to Perth’s island playground of Rottnest Island!

Western Australia’s most photogenic marsupial (remember the #quokkaselfie) is driving the island’s ‘Get Quokka Happy’ winter campaign. Admission fees are being waived for overnight visitors until the end of August, accommodation is up to 40% off, and a new pop-up beach bar outside Hotel Rottnest is offering drinks and dinner around a cosy beach fire.

‘Quokka Birthday’ celebrations for the adorable island icon are usually reserved for one September weekend but will now extend to a month-long event, with full details released soon. 2019 saw travel deals, movie screenings, and free walking tours and activities.

And watch this space for more on Samphire Rottnest in coming months. Named for the island’s native samphire plants, the 80-room luxury escape on Thomson Bay promises a “respectful, understated barefoot luxury experience”. Bookings open July 28 for stays from October 2020 onwards. Sign us up.

Rottnest Island is about 25 minutes via ferry from Fremantle. Find out more about Samphire Rottnest here
