Places to Stay

Legian, Kuta & Seminyak

Perhaps Bali’s most famous beach, Kuta offers couples one of the world’s most romantic sunsets.  You’ll treasure a photo of you and your sweetheart illuminated by that iconic blazing backdrop.

If approached with an open mind, Kuta is crazy, loud and a tonne of fun. Kuta doesn’t take itself too seriously and neither should you.

Back in the 90s, Kuta was discovered by backpackers with a penchant for big waves and cheap accommodation. Today, backpackers still flock here, but they’ve been joined by families and couples.

Kuta’s long sandy beachfront is its calling card. Packed with tourists basking in the sun, surfers keen on catching long, perfect waves and beach vendors trying to sell you anything and everything, there is never a dull moment.

By day you can browse a dizzying array of stalls selling everything from t-shirts to trinkets, and after dark the bargains continue at the bustling Kuta night market. On the other end of the spectrum, new large-scale shopping centres are destinations within themselves.

Head north from Kuta and discover lovely Legian Beach, ending where Seminyak Beach starts. For many, Legian boasts the ideal location and ambience – a little less hectic than Kuta and not quite as trendy as Seminyak, making it perfect for couples who want to flit between the two worlds.

Flashiest of the flashy, vibrant Seminyak is the place to be seen. The epicentre of Bali for stylish fashion boutiques and hip restaurants, it’s home to many expats who have set up shop here as designers and artists. After a week in Seminyak, you’ll want to do the same.

The wide sandy beach is lined with five-star hotels and upscale restaurants and bars, giving you every chance to mingle with the cool crowd. World-class spas, hotels and luxury villas abound.

A foray into Seminyak will confront you with the congestion and crooked footpaths Bali is known for — but the hip boutiques and their sophisticated take on tropical design are worth the effort. Art galleries also appeal to the upscale crowd. The designers and artists are often on site, and they’ll share their inspiration with you.

Kuta, Seminyak & Legian: Need to Know

DO catch a Kuta sunset. They are truly spectacular. And a sunset selfie is a lasting way to remember your Bali honeymoon or holiday.

DON’T haggle at the markets if you don’t intend to buy — put yourselves in the vendors’ shoes. Besides, you are in paradise so why bother wasting your time (not to mention coming across as a rude tourist)?

COUPLES WILL LOVE the energy… or not! We won’t lie, Kuta is hectic, but you can’t go to Bali and not visit.
