“Dream now, experience later” is the message from Auckland’s hauntingly beautiful new Papatūānuku (our earth mother) is breathing video — which has already clocked up almost a million views across the world.
An emotive voiceover by 11-year-old Manawanui Maniapoto Mills, recorded at her home on Auckland’s rugged west coast, and a soundtrack of native birdsongand taonga pūoro (traditional Māori instrumental sounds) set the scene for some seriously breathtaking footage of New Zealand’s northern treasure.
It’s a powerful yet calm-inducing combo.
According to Steve Armitage, General Manager of Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (who produced the video during COVID-19 lockdown), the message is simple: this is a time of rest; take a moment to appreciate the stillness and the beauty of our region.
“While people are unable to visit our region at the moment, all of Auckland’s wonderful experiences will be waiting for the world when the time is right,” he says.
We can hardly wait.
