New cultural festival coming to Auckland this July

In Travel News by The H4C Team

Heading to New Zealand this winter? There’s another reason to add Auckland to the itinerary (if you haven’t already), with an exciting new arts and culture festival debuting there this July (1-30). Featuring everything from culinary events to dazzling light shows and cultural performances, this month-long celebration is sure to make for amazing memories.

Inspired by the elements of air, fire, earth and water, Elemental AKL will transform eateries, bars, parks, public spaces, theatres and islands (yes, islands) into a cultural wonderland. Set to be a real highlight (pun intended), a slew of whimsical light displays will pop up around the city – there’ll even be a three-day Stellar Festival of Lights at Smales Farm to mark Matariki, the Māori New Year.

Adding to the list, an array of fabulous performances will connect attendees with the Māori culture. Expect everything from a unique fashion show and theatre to musical and dance performances. After a fantastic foodie experience? Gourmands, indulge in the ultimate progressive dinner, go on a culinary tour of the city’s world-class food scene or head along to the incredible Auckland Food Show.

One event that’s really got our attention, Lights Out on Great Barrier Island will see attendees travel to the isle by night and simply marvel at the glittering night sky – a simple but magical experience. Designated an International Dark Sky Sanctuary, this awe-inspiring spot will also see a collection of other events, all with an astrological theme. Get clued-up with navigation lessons, take part in a photography competition or live it up and attend the Stars and Planets ball!
