Pangkor Island, Lumut, Perak
Once shelter for bands of wild pirates, Pangkor Island is steeped in history and tropical beauty. Only a 10 minute boat ride from the relaxed naval town of Lumut, the small, sparsely populated island is home to natural treasures such as magnificent beaches and crystal clear waters. Take a break from the hustle and bustle as you sip cocktails under swaying palm trees and Casuarinas or sample the flavours of Malaysia from one of the many hawker eateries lining the north-western side of the island.
Also a great destination is nearby Coral Beach. The two west-facing beaches overlook the two small, uninhabited islands of Giam and Mengator – ideal for those wanting tranquility. Alternatively, divers will be in heaven when they visit the Pulau Sembilan group of nine islands, boasting unique marine life and intimate coves.
