Now that the 2021 Dark Mofo festival program (16-22 June) has been revealed, it’s time to make tracks to Tasmania. After last year’s postponement, Hobart’s fiery deep dive into winter promises to be more intense than ever. And we’ve found just the tour to inspire you.

Boutique tour company Inspiring Journeys is hosting a small group Dark Mofo Long Weekend from 18-21 June 2021. The itinerary delves into the thought-provoking arts, culture, food, and wine of the festival itself with plenty of Hobart highlights to round out your winter escape. Here’s a really quick overview:

Day one includes pre-dinner drinks at the Hobart Brewing Company, a seat at the Winter Feast banquet table, and time to explore the festival’s installations, after-dark exhibitions, and late-night haunts.

Day two will take you on a tour of the historic Hobart docks with time to shop for trinkets at the Salamanca Markets before an indulgent lunch at New Norfolk icon and paddock-to-plate pioneer, the Agrarian Kitchen Eatery. Discover the region’s dark past with a tour of the neighbouring former Willow Court Asylum.

Day three is a cracker with a cruise up the Derwent River aboard MONA ROMA to Australia’s largest privately funded (and most provocative) art gallery, MONA. Naturally, you’ll be enjoying canapes and bubbles in the boat’s Posh Pit in readiness for the gallery’s eye-popping art. Stop for a sample at Morilla Winery’s cellar door before heading back for a scrumptious farewell dinner on the Hobart waterfront.

On day four, take a last look at Tassie’s darkly seductive capital or stay on for your own Dark Mofo-inspired adventures.
