Hidden waterfall at Tegenungan

“If you love the romance of waterfalls, Bali really delivers. Tegenungan Waterfall (pictured above) is one of the best, located at Tegenungan Village just outside Ubud. Its lush green setting, easy access and heavy water flow make it ripe for exploring. Just pay the entrance fee (around A$1.50) and make your way through the shops that line the path to get to the stairs, before descending to the waterfall. There’s a temple nearby, so don’t be surprised to see plenty of locals relaxing here too.”

East Bali is a snorkel-lover’s dream

Snorkelling day tour to the secret underwater world of Amed

“Still waiting on your scuba diving licence? You don’t have to miss out on Bali’s colourful marine life. Instead, discover the magical underwater world of Amed – a long coastal strip of fishing villages in East Bali – on a snorkelling tour. You’ll dive beneath the pristine water’s surface to experience the region’s best snorkelling sites, spotting colourful fish, coral and sea turtles. A real highlight is Lipah Bay, where you can get up close to a shipwreck that’s now teeming with exotic marine life.”

Bali road trip and cocktails by VW Kombi

This adventure has a real retro edge. Relax in the comfort of a modified 1980 VW Kombi, complete with wifi and mini bar, sipping on cocktails as you visit off-the-beaten-track temples and some of Bali’s best beaches and beach clubs. You’ll travel past stunning protected rice terraces and take in views of the dramatic cliffs of Uluwatu, so there are plenty of photo ops along the drive, too. Clucky couples will appreciate the stop at 17th-century temple Pura Batu Ngaus, where it’s said fertility prayers are answered.”

Sunset from a sea horse (well, beach horse)

Sunset horse riding at Yeh Gangga Beach

“Love the idea of riding off into the sunset? Head to the peaceful village of Tabanan, just north of Tanah Lot, for a horse riding adventure along the sands of Yeh Gangga beach. You’ll ride wild and free along a dramatic black-sand beach fringed with green rice fields. Take in a local waterfall, as well as a clifftop temple and a bat cave, and get a glimpse into village life, where culture and tradition entwine. When the crystal blue ocean beckons, take a dip in the sea with your steed.”

Ubud Cycling Tours

“If you’re staying in Ubud, you’ll spot throngs of cyclists making their way down from the volcano. These tours make for a fun day out and a thrilling way to take in the local sights, as you get to break away from the main roads and busy towns, and venture into the heart of the local villages and natural environment. Pass through coffee and cocoa plantations, and ride beside breathtaking river valleys, jungle forest and exotic green rice fields. The only hazard along the way are the local children who run out of houses and compounds to wave and yell their favourite English words, with bright smiles and a genuine excitement to see a trail of foreigners zooming through their towns. Not staying in Ubud? No problem. Most tours can arrange pick-ups at hotels in Nusa Dua, Kuta and Sanur, as well as Ubud areas. Visit The Bali Bible to choose a tour.”
