The South Coast of New South Wales is a stunning part of Australia. Discover breathtaking scenery in every direction — this is a region of rolling hills scattered with charming country villages, pristine waters and near-deserted beaches, old-school Aussie beach towns, and vast national parks.
The South Coast region stretches from Wollongong and Kiama to the southern towns of the Sapphire Coast. In between are Batemans Bay, Eurobodalla and the Shoalhaven towns of Jervis Bay, Nowra, Mollymook, and Ulladulla.
On the coast, highlights include the sweeping ocean views along the coastal walk between Kiama and the Sapphire Coast. Other coastal delights include spotting fur seals at Montague Island and surfing in Shellharbour. The region's beach towns offer an easier pace of life, along with restaurants and cafes with fine food and often lovely views to complement the fare.
Mollymook has a pretty beach and is an excellent spot for surfing. It also has plenty of grassy areas for picnics near the beach, and two golf courses — the nine-hole Beachside Course and the 18-hole Hilltop Course by the ocean.
Inland, the Southern Highlands is a region of storybook towns, rolling farmland and stately homes with beautiful gardens. Enjoy country drives past farm gates, food trails, antique shops, and delis. You could spend days exploring the countryside and relaxed ambience of the region.
In winter, the Southern Highlands is a land of red wine, hearty fare, and crackling fireplaces. For many, there is nothing more romantic than snuggling up in front of a fire in a cosy cabin or cottage. The villages of the Southern Highlands, including Bowral, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Berrima, and Bundanoon, each have their own charming personality. While away a few hours exploring their historic buildings, many housing craft shops and cafes.
