Sidemen village

Bali is full of hidden wonders and lesser-known gems that can make your trip there extra-special. Want to avoid the usual tourist traps? Here are five incredible experiences you'll want to keep secret for yourselves…

Nusa Ceningan IslandNusa Ceningan Island

This offshore island is truly breathtaking. Located between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida (and connected by a suspension bridge), this tiny isle is great for surfing and reconnecting with nature.

Something you have to do before leaving Nusa Ceningan is visiting its picture-perfect Blue Lagoon. Blessed with jade surrounds and azure waters (of course), this amazing spot attracts adventure-seekers in-the-know with its heart-stopping cliff-jumping – not for the faint of heart!

Amed BeachAmed Beach

If the thought of the hustle and bustle of places like Kuta overwhelm you, set your sights for tranquil Amed Beach. Located in East Bali, it offers couples the chance to relax and unwind in paradise.

Snorkellers and divers will love the underwater experiences on offer just off the shores of the black-sand beach. Keep an eye out for the famous USAT Liberty wreck and schools of brightly coloured fish!

Sidemen villageSidemen village

Love the rugged romance of Ubud but want to skip the Instagram-obsessed crowds? Situated in Bali's Karangasem Regency (on the island's east side), Sidemen boasts plenty of charm.

Home to seemingly never-ending green rice terraces, towering mountains and time-forgotten temples, this untouched oasis makes for sensational hiking, river rafting or just good ol' relaxing.

Tukad Cepung WaterfallTukad Cepung Waterfall's caves

Seeing Bali's waterfalls is a bit of a must-do, but for something different make your way to the Tukad Cepung Waterfall (15 minutes from Bangli).

After wading through a shallow river, you'll come across a magnificent cave with its own waterfall. The main attraction, though, are the shafts of light that stream through, creating a simple but unbelievably enchanting spectacle.

Pinggan villagePinggan village

Another popular experience that's high on travellers' lists is admiring the wonderful views of Mount Batur. Enjoy the same thrills away from everyone when you visit Pinggan Village in the island's north.

With breathtaking views of the mountain and the nearby lake (especially at sunrise), this fantastic spot is also where you'll find the gorgeous Gitgit waterfall and pristine natural beauty – heaven!
