Macau’s Journey of Lights festival is set to shine brighter than ever this year with UNESCO World Heritage listed sites being transformed into scenes of spectacular night shows.
Focusing on 11 attractions, it will see the A-Ma Temple shrouded in a purple haze while the iconic Senado Square will be adorned under “The Canopy of Starry Night”.
Held from December 6-31 from 7pm to 10pm with the theme of “butterfly fairy and little elves”, the Journey of Lights will emcompass three main highlights: 3D mapping, romantic light installations and fun interactive games.
3D mapping
Projected onto the facades of four historical monuments, the video images will take travellers on a journey through the bygone stories of these architectural delights.
Light installations
Stunning themed illuminations will be displayed at nine attractions, including the “Butterflies in the Starlight” display at St Augustine’s Square, “The Canopy of Starry Night” at Senado Square and “The Clothes Drying Lane” at Lou Kau Mansion.
Interactive games
The festival will host five interactive games including “Cycle Racing” and “Taming Rudolph the Reindeer”. The Cycle Racing will combine bicycle generators and 3D projection mapping techniques from December 6-20 and December 21-25. Taming Rudolph the Reindeer will be held December 26-31, allowing participants to search for Santa’s Reindeer through a touch-screen device on the spot.
