David Bowie Is…

A massively popular exhibition from London’s prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) celebrates the extraordinary life and career of arguably the coolest man in music history.

“David Bowie is” has been seen by more than a million people at sell-out shows in London, Paris, Chicago and Berlin. And now it’s Melbourne’s turn, with the exhibition coming to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) from 16 July 2015 to 1 November 2015.

The exhibition charts the genius and legacy of the pioneering artist, innovator and cultural icon that is David Bowie. There are handwritten lyric sheets, album artwork, hundreds of photographs, stage sets, rare videos, filmed live shows and interviews with key collaborators. Plus more than 50 instantly recognisable costumes – from Ziggy Stardust bodysuits (1972), Kansai Yamamoto’s unforgettable creations for the Aladdin Sane tour (1973) and the Union Jack coat designed by Bowie and Alexander McQueen for the Earthling album cover (1997).

The season is strictly limited with limited capacity, and advanced bookings are recommended, especially for Friday nights and weekends. A specially curated programme of talks and special events, late-night programmes, film screenings and live performances will also delight fans of the Thin White Duke.
