Why scan the horizon for the elusive Aurora when you can float amongst the stars in a hot air balloon? Seriously, sign us up for this one. The wilds of Swedish Lapland are home base for a truly next-level experience, created by Off the Map Travel. The balloons soar to 40 metres off the arctic ice and hover to hunt for the mystical, otherworldly Northern Lights. Awesome.
This first-of-its-kind concept was dreamed up by Aurora Safari Camp founders Jonas Gejke and Fredrik Broman in association with ballooning expert Andrew Peart — who’s swapping African savannahs for Lapland’s winter-white wonderland.
Adventures are tailor made to each couple but we fancy the four-day/three-night Aurora in the Sky itinerary which includes accommodation at the Outpost and Aurora Safari Camp, snowmobile adventure with lunch on the Arctic Circle, and Aurora Hot Air Balloon experience plus meals, transfers and more.
The first flights take off in December 2020 and will be available through to April 2021.
