Celebrating 150 Years of Winter Tourism at Switzerland’s Matterhorn

Switzerland is known as being the original birth place of winter tourism, and it’s now celebrating 150 years of that tradition.

The Swiss landscapes never cease to enchant, so it’s the perfect destination for couples to enjoy a magnificent escape and now is the perfect time to go. Switzerland Tourism had just announced that travellers to Zermatt in July this year will be in for a treat as celebrations for Matterhorn’s 150 years are taking place with a multitude of activities are happening throughout July and August.

Director of Switzerland Tourism, Mark Wettstein, says Zermatt has lined up a series of highly enjoyable events that couples can enjoy to celebrate this momentous occasion. These include an open-air theatre, village tours, alpine hikes, Zermatt Folklore Festival and the the possible appearance of Queen Elizabeth along with other international guests.

Thousands of Australians visit Zermatt each year to lay witness to it’s stunning scenery, incredible culture and countless attractions. It’s an idyll romantic getaway for couples to enjoy nature, and there hasn’t been a better time to immerse yourself than now.
