Break out the schnapps, the 2020 World Ski Awards have just been announced! A gala ceremony at A-ROSA Kitzbühel in Austria was the culmination of voting by hundreds of thousands of travel professionals and skiers across the globe.
The World’s Best Ski Resort 2020 went to Val Thorens in France with W Verbier in Switzerland named Best Ski Hotel and Japan’s Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono awarded World’s Best New Ski Hotel.
On the local front, Victoria’s alpine gem Astra Falls Creek was crowned one of the Top 3 World’s Best Ski Boutique Hotels as well as picking up Australia’s Best Ski Boutique Hotel for the fifth consecutive year. Snowy Mountains icon Thredbo Resort was honoured as Australia’s Best Ski Resort for the fourth year while across the ditch Mt Hutt took out New Zealand’s Best Ski Resort.
In a challenging year for tourism across the board, the prestigious awards offered a bright spot. Thredbo General Manager Stuart Diver said “We feel fortunate to have delivered a safe winter season in 2020 and to have been able to have seen so many smiling faces enjoying the fresh mountain air and the world-class skiing and snowboarding. Winning this award is the icing on the cake.”
Fingers crossed for even more ski adventures in 2021.
