St Mark's Square

Heading to St Mark's Square is a must for any visitor to Venice, but when you're travelling as a couple, it can be an extremely romantic experience.

While the square can be crowded in summer, if you avoid peak-hour you can have a more tranquil experience. Roam the square with a cup of hot chocolate, taking in the beautiful architecture surrounding you, not to mention lovely views of the lagoon.

Then head into St Mark's Basilica itself, one of the most majestic cathedrals in the world. Lofty ceilings shimmer with gold while intricate frescos and mosaics adorn the walls. You'll be left speechless by the true elegance and magnificence of your surroundings. Take some time to wander the quiet aisles and corridors, and even take a seat in the pews for a moment of reflection. You can also climb the tower and head outside for stunning views of the Venice, which are not to be missed.

This is a humbling experience that will bring you and your partner even closer together.

The Rialto Bridge and Bridge of Sighs

You can't go to Venice without getting a couples' photo perched on the Rialto Bridge. This beloved bridge crosses the Grand Canal, and offers a great view of quaint, pastel-coloured buildings and gondolas gliding along the water.

The bridge can get busy during the day, so lovers might like to amble along early in the morning or in the evening when it is less crowded. Then, you can get the perfect snap of the two of you against this beautiful, world-famous background.

With its romantic name, the Bridge of Sighs is also not-to-be-missed, although its history is rather sombre as this overpass used to form a link between prisons. Is name was born from the legend that one could hear the sighs of prisoners as they were being led to their cells, with the bridge offering the last view of beautiful Venice they would ever see before they were locked away.

Enclosed with small windows, made of striking white limestone and suspended high over the canal, the Bridge of Sighs offers an iconic view of Venice, and while its history is tragic, there's definitely romance to be here, too.

Visit San Giorgio Maggiore

The small island of San Giorgio Maggiore is home to a magnificent church. It was designed and built in the classical Renaissance style, with bright white marble and extremely grand ceiling arches making this a striking place to wander hand-in-hand with your loved one.

The stunning, crisp white colour of the church looks beautiful surrounded by the blue waters of the lagoon, not to mention the rusty-orange brick of nearby buildings.

Take a moment inside to soak up the silence and gaze at the wonderful works of art that adorn the walls. You'll also find yourself staring up at the awe-inspiring high ceilings.

Spend some time strolling outside, too. There are great views looking back to the main island and plenty of sailboats and other sights to treasure.

Best of all, you won't need to worry about feeling tired and worn out from all your exploration together. Venice has plenty of luxury accommodation for those on honeymoons or simply a romantic getaway, so you'll always have a comfortable place to go home to in the evenings - bliss.
