With its varied terrain, incredible food, vibrant markets and stunning sea life, Thailand offers newlyweds a wide range of activities to fill their itinerary.
1. Beaches and islands
It's no secret that Thailand has some of the most exquisite beaches in the world. With around 1,430 islands, there are plenty of places for newlyweds to choose from. Dreaming of camping with your honey on an uninhabited island? Only a handful of Thailand's islands are tourist destinations, so it's totally possible to get off the beaten track and find your own private white-sand beach.
The mountainous region of Northern Thailand offers tourists the chance to experience the more authentic side of Thai culture by interacting with hill tribes, taking a cooking course, or visiting a night market.
Though touristy, Chiang Mai offers a wide range of activities and is a gateway for adventurous couples looking to visit the northern village of Pai near the Myanmar border. A short climb up Doi Suthep mountain to visit the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep temple provides amazing vistas of the city.
There are many great opportunities to get out and have a genuine adventure on foot in the mountains of northern Thailand. Booking a guided tour can be a great way to spot many different species, visit a hill tribe and get information about the history of the jungle's flora and fauna.
If you and your honey love spicy and flavourful food, you're in for a real treat. Thai cuisine has much more to offer than the over-popularised Pad Thai. Chances are you'll never have more fun eating out, or get to sample such an amazing array of choice ingredients, as you will in Thailand. From green papaya salad to Tom Yum soup and traditional red and green curries, you will never tire of ordering something new.
5. World-class snorkelling and diving
Boasting more than 1,931 km of coast, couples will be impressed with the wide array of dive sites including reefs, shipwrecks, tunnels and pinnacles. Prepare to be amazed by the incredible variety of marine life and colourful coral.
An experience not to be missed, shopping in Thailand will give you the thrill of a good bargain if you're a keen negotiator, but either way it'll be a laugh. There are some amazing hand-crafted fabrics, scarves, wood carvings and jewellery to be had, so when it's time to do your souvenir shopping head to the local night market.
7. Luxury accommodation
Part of the beauty of Thailand is the abundance of luxurious and quite affordable accommodation. Home to many of the world's best hotel and resort brands of the world, as well as lots of boutique and independent options, you really are spoilt for choice when seeking out your perfect little piece of honeymoon luxury.
There are countless Buddhist temples scattered around Thailand, each one more beautiful and ornate than the last. A visit to Sukhothai, about a day's journey from Bangkok, offers an opportunity to explore the amazing ruins of this former capital. Rent bikes and cruise past crumbling temples, ancient monuments and giant Buddhas.
9. Exotic animals
Riding an elephant might not be on everyone's to-do list, but it's a truly unique experience and one that just might be your most memorable. If you're not keen to hop on top of these lumbering creatures, visit one of the sanctuaries and watch the baby elephants romp, and the adults perform tricks. It pays to do a bit of research about the different organisations and how they treat these gentle giants, as elephants deserve love and respect.
If you and your honey love a good night on the town, look no further than Thailand. Especially on the more popular islands, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a night out, sip from fruity cocktails and listen to some live music while the waves lap the shore.
