Your Bali: Gili Islands
You live a fast-paced life and are always “connected” to the online world. You work hard and play hard. As a couple, it’s time to check in with each other – and not via a random Viber message. The Gili Islands are just the antidote. Three tiny desert islands float in the Bali Sea, all white sand beaches and palm trees and paradise on earth. Think Gilligan’s Island, except that you can leave at any time. In fact, fast boats can get you to Bali in two hours.
But what’s the rush? You have a pick of three islands to suit your mood: Gili T, Gili Meno and Gili Air. Gili T is the most happening of the three with a vibrant social scene and sophisticated high-end hotel, restaurant and bar options. There are also night markets and beach parties, so you can have your snorkelling with a side of partying.
Alternatively, Gili Meno is quiet, tropical and undeveloped, its stunning natural beauty surrounded by crystal clear waters. With only a handful of restaurants and bungalows, there are no distractions from the task at hand: rest, relaxation and romance. Gili Air is a hybrid of the other two islands, a delicate balance between the social scene of Gili T (without being too wild) and the chilled atmosphere of Gili Meno. There are laid back beach bars and restaurants for when you just need that little bit of activity.
All three islands guarantee pristine turquoise waters, spectacular snorkelling and diving opportunities (look out for clown fish and turtles) and the serenity of no motorised transport – just horse-drawn carts or bicycles to get you around. Get there soon because these idyllic islands won’t be quiet for long.
