Seeing the rare and endangered mountain gorilla in the wild is one of life’s great adventures and luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent has over 15 years’ experience operating remarkable expeditions doing just that.

A five-day visit to experience these amazing animals with A&K includes two days tracking through Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to locate one of the four habituated gorilla families.

The walk is demanding, up and down steep forested slopes and through thick jungle vegetation, but the reward sizeable. Sighting the gorillas in the undergrowth is one of life’s most humbling moments. Guests spend up to an hour observing the primates as they interact with each other, play and forage.

Three nights are spent in the comfort of Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp where accommodation is in eight large en-suite tents which each boast two queen sized beds and a bathtub looking out onto the forest – ideal for relaxing after a day in the field. The camp bar and dining cottage also overlook the rainforest and there is a raised natural platform for open-air dining. To fully unwind after the day’s activity a mini spa is an added indulgence.
