Bali is renowned for its spas and spa rituals and I must admit that I never miss a chance when on holiday to indulge in an authentic Balinese spa journey. Which is why it was such a surprise to venture into the Aqua Perla Spa at the hip beachfront hotel, Double-Six at Seminyak and experience something totally new and modern, light and white. This is a spa with a difference, starting with the architecture and interior design.
The modern space flows from one area to another, one level to the next, using state-of-the-art beauty and spa equipment not usually seen in Bali. Water plays a dominant role in the decor and spa journeys while the everchanging ambient lighting reflects the varying times of day; hues change from blue to yellow, amber to purple as the day unfolds into evening.
There are relaxation rooms, hair and beauty salons and… the SPA. My treatment was called the ‘Hydrotrail Spa Treatment’ and it uses some components that are unique in Bali. It’s like walking into your own private water park and it commenced with me sitting in a large hydro seat with seven water jets massaging my back, thighs and legs. I then moved through the trail to another water area where strong water soaked my head and body like standing under a waterfall. The next area was more gentle with sprays coming from both sides before I moved to the Rainforest area with a soft misty spray. I was starting to feel either detoxed or drowned, I’m not sure which but the feeling was great.
Next was the lovely tiled Hammam area, really just a luxe steam room where I was gently exfoliated with scented salts leaving me glowing from head to toe with no dead skin cells left. Tingling all over, I was led to the massage room where every knot in my muscles was teased and eased by the firm but gentle hands of my therapist.
The Aqua Perla Spa has received many accolades since it opened (just as the hotel has) and we’re happy to say that all are well deserved… we’ll certainly be back when next in Bali!
